Taking my shot at describing, capturing for future, further access, what I learned this week—whether I really understood it, or not.

[1] It really has to be the same every time.

Every change or exception to a routine undermines things exponentially. It throws everything out of alignment, and you and they won't be off on the one point but on all the related points. And, it will weaken expectations of consistency going forward.

So, even if there isn't anything directly contingent on you starting doing this task exactly at this time. If you said that's when it would happen, do that. Stick to the schedule. Keep your word.

Now and then there will be a good reason for exceptions, but most of the time, there's just sloppiness driving these little mis-steps and delays. Like relying on your cellphone to cover up your chronic lateness and changes of plans. It's messy and you and everyone involved is losing focus, momentum and attention because of it.

[2] what qualities are you looking to express with the work you do?

It can't just be about making money. You probably have more than one option for how to make a living. You've made choices to get here. Even if it's not ideal, you're following something to this spot. To this work, or company, or clients...

What is it that brings you here?

[3] Is this the best way to express what matters to you?
